Next, after gluing, CUMBERLAND goes to the presses for about half an hour. To glue the pieces together, spread a uniform coat of carpenter's glue across the whole piece. Press the next layer of hull on top of that... repeat with each hull piece. For the bulwarks, run a thin bead of glue all around the sides of the top deck and carefully appy the bulwarks. Compress the pieces with your hands for a minute or two. This squeezes out excess glue (wipe it away) and gives the remaining glue time to grip.
When you put the hull into the presses, it is essential that whatever weight you put on top is centered. If it is off center, the ship will dry compressed on one side, and with gaps between the layers on the other. Generally, that is unfixable.
